From September 2011 Mk Council will replace the current Orange paper Photocard and Permits used for the Junior Tripper & Citirider scheme with a new “All in 1” MK Plastic Card.

We run two types of scheme Junior Tripper and Junior Cityrider please see below for further details.
The qualification for the All in 1 MK card and junior travel concession scheme are as follows:

  • aged between 5 and 18
  • a permanent resident of Milton Keynes in full time education within or outside of Milton Keynes, or else,
  • for those attending primary, middle schools in Milton Keynes, or schools and colleges outside
  • Fill in an application form which is available from Civic Offices.
  • Hand to your school/college and they will send the completed form to the Bus Card Section at Milton Keynes Council.
  • The wallet, All in 1 card, permit and buscard will be made up and sent to you

For those attending secondary schools or colleges in Milton Keynes:
There are a choice of two transport schemes available for juniors these being Junior Cityrider and Junior Tripper.
Junior Cityrider

  • Junior Cityriders are available for a week or a month at a time and give unlimited travel within Milton Keynes during these periods.
  • The cost of the weekly ticket is £5.00 and for the month £17.50.
  • Credits for Junior Cityriders can be put on bus.
  • A validation receipt is given at the time of purchase showing the date of expiry and must be kept as proof of credits stored on the card.
  • With this type of ticket you also have the choice of London Midland Train travel throughout the city but must show your Bus Pass and validation receipt at the time of travel as proof of credits stored on the card (there is no cash charge).

Junior Trippers

  • Junior Trippers are suitable for those who will not be using the bus as frequently.
  • Credits of £3.50 are put onto the card giving ten journeys costing 35p per journey, usable on any bus in Milton Keynes.
  • These journeys stay on the card until the credits are used up.

Or you can also show your All in 1 MK card to the bus driver and you’ll be able to purchase a ticket for a single journey for 35p.
Junior trippers sold on Arriva buses are in the form of 10 journey paper tickets and not sold using the plastic swipe card. You will still need to show the bus driver your photo ID card to receive the discounted ticket. You will need to keep the paper ticket and give to the bus driver on each subsequent journey – he/she will cancel one journey each time, and will check your photo ID card.
Both of these schemes are interchangeable to suit needs; just tell the bus driver which one you want, Tripper or Cityrider.
