Aylesbury Vale Advantage (AVA) are pleased to be working in partnership with Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) to deliver enhancements to the Aylesbury Inner Ring Road. Richard Harrington of AVA said: “Visitors and residents who access Aylesbury Town Centre via Bourg Walk bridge and Station Boulevard are familiar with the high quality public realm in that area. This first phase of wider improvements to Friarage Road, from the station car park roundabout to the Morrison’s roundabout, is an extension to that programme of transport infrastructure which was secured through the use of government funds. These first impressions of Aylesbury form part of the wider ambition to secure the regeneration of Aylesbury Town over the longer term”.
The first phase of these wider improvements will take place on Friarage road between Station Way West (Morrison’s roundabout) and Station Way East (Friars Square Car Park) and is funded through the use of external government funds. As well as the above, these works also aim to reduce vehicle speed generally and more specifically on the approaches to the pedestrian crossings on this stretch through the following features:
- Consistent, narrow lane widths achieved by widening the central reserve – see pdf of plans at bottom of the page
- Coloured high friction road surfacing
- Minor amendments to the Rickford’s Hill Junction and adjacent pelican crossing
- Provision of new improved street lighting with banners
- Improved lane alignment on the approach to Morrison’s roundabout
- Trees and planting areas
- Planted central reserve
- Minimal use of road markings and street furniture.
- Removal of guardrail where appropriate
- Advance cycle stop lines at junction with Station Boulevard
- Prevention of blocking across the boulevard junction by queuing vehicles

These works will start on the 31st January
These measures will also improve the perceived safety of the Station Boulevard pedestrian crossing across Friarage Road

This will be achieved by planting more trees as gateway features, planting along a widened central reservation, changing the look of the road with coloured surfacing, and changing the street lighting to aid the better feel to the road.
These works will commence in the next week with all work taking place outside of the rush hours. Any need for road closures will be done through night time closures and diversion routes will be clearly sign posted.

Every effort will be made to carry out the works with the minimum of disturbance. Transport for Buckinghamshire apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused, but hope that any disruption in the short term will be far out-weighed by the longer term benefits of the scheme.

Valerie Letheren, Cabinet Member for Transport said: “This project applies the landscape principles of the Bourg Walk crossing to Friarage Road which will secure visual improvements to the road and road users whilst still maintaining steady vehicle flows”.

Market Hill has now been reopened and buses are calling at Buckingham Bus Stand again.

Further information for 61  service passengers on Saturday 5th Feb

The diversion of service 61 will now be all day from FIRST bus in each
direction until an all clear is received.

In addition, drivers should not sell tickets to Luton Town Centre just
as far as L&D Hospital and then to Luton Airport.

Any passenger wishing to travel to Luton TC should be informed that it
is unlikely any Arriva buses are serving Luton TC.

SERVICE 61 SATURDAY 5th FEBRUARY

Due to the EDL march/rally in Luton and our experience of one of these
last May in Aylesbury, it has been decided to operate service 61 as
follows on Saturday 5th February.
Journeys affected will be from the 0830 ex Aylesbury until last bus or
an all clear is received from Luton; and from 0925 ex Luton Airport
until last bus or an all clear message is received.
Ex Aylesbury: at Luton & Dunstable Hospital, transfer any passengers
requiring Luton Town Centre onto a 31, 38, 69 or 70. Then turn right at
the roundabout on to the M1 southbound. Take the next exit at junction
10 onto the M1 spur then straight across at the roundabout onto the
A1081 and follow the signs to the Airport, which will bring you back
onto the normal route by the Ibis hotel roundabout.
Ex Luton Airport: at the Ibis hotel roundabout follow the signs for the
A1081 and M1 motorway and proceed along the A1081. At the large
roundabout of the intersection of the A1081 and M1 spur, go straight
across on to the Motorway spur road then right at the end onto the M1
northbound. Come off the M1 at the next turn off for junction 11, and
turn left at the slip road lights and back on normal line of route,
picking up again at the L&D Hospital.

STOKE ROAD BRIDGE CLOSURE THIS WEEKEND

We have just been advised that the bridge closure for this weekend is
cancelled.

Thus services 4 & 300 will run normally this weekend

CLOSURE OF AVEBURY BOULEVARD Eastbound SERVICES 100 and 150

From Thursday 6th January for about 8 weeks or until 31st March maximum [the extent  depending upon the winter weather], Avebury Boulevard will be closed in the direction of travel from the Rail Station to the Shops i n Central Milton Keynes.

Services 100 and 150 will need to divert from Avebury Boulevard via
Grafton Gate, Midsummer Boulevard and Saxon Gate and back onto Avebury  Boulevard for the duration of the closure.
There is no change for buses travelling from the Shops to the Rail
Station [i.e. the Sunday service].
This does not affect any of our bus stops at all

As part of its Transform Oxford programme and together with the West End Partnership, the county council wants to improve Frideswide Square.

Consultation with stakeholders and other local organisations on their ambitions for Frideswide Square has shown high levels of dissatisfaction with the square.  Face-to-face interviews with members of the public have shown a lower level of dissatisfaction, but still revealed a number of significant concerns about the way the square works.   Read more about the Ambitions consultation results.

The national and local financial position means we don’t know when funding will be available to make improvements. However, we want to be in a position to make rapid progress when funding becomes available.  This could be in several years’ time.

Design approaches consultation

The Design Approaches for Frideswide Square stakeholder consultation took place between 8 July 2010 and 27 September 2010.  The deadline was extended to allow additional responses.

Following the ambitions consultation, four design approaches were assessed by officers against the design objectives. These approaches, along with background information on the scheme, were set out for stakeholders taking part on the design approaches consultation to view before they completed the online questionnaire or provided a written response.

Design approaches consultation results

Comments made by stakeholders on the different design approaches have been summarised in a consultation summary report.

The comments made in response to the design approaches consultation will inform more detailed designs which stakeholders and members of the public will have a chance to comment on later in 2011.

This consultation has now closed and we are analysing the results.

Drivers notice

Things to do if you have a collision / accident / incident on your PCV Vehicle / Private Hire Vehicle

It’s company procedure and the law that you should always fill in an Incident report form available in the Drivers room at the depot, or from the Duty Manager’s office. This should be placed in the silver box by the paying in machine

Failure to follow the law and these guidelines may result in a heavier penalty than compliance.

BY LAW – you must do the following;

· Always stop after any collision.

· If someone has been injured you MUST report it to Police.

· Exchange details, including name and address of driver, name and address of the owner of the vehicle, vehicle registration and insurance cover (if available) with others involved.

· If you do not stop, or cannot provide any details, then you must report the collision to Police as soon as reasonably practicable, but in any case within 24 hours.

AVDC require you to do the following (licence conditions);

· Any collision or damage that affects the safety, performance or appearance of the vehicle must be reported within 72 hours to Taxi Licensing (01296 585605)

· Do not drive a vehicle in a manner that may intimidate or have the potential to intimidate another road user.

It is also advisable to do the following;

· Check for damage to your vehicle, any other vehicles involved and any injuries to people or animals.

· Make sure you have a note of the other people involved and their vehicles (colour, registration, make and model).

· If there were any witnesses to the accident make sure you have their contact details too.

· If possible try and make a note of the precise location of the vehicles before any are moved.

· If you have any worries, doubts or concerns then you should call the police and ask them to attend.

· As soon as you can after the accident sit quietly and write out your recollection of exactly what happened.

· Inform your insurance company.

Other Legal Requirements;

· If you do not stop, the registered owner of the vehicle may be sent a ‘Notice of Intended Prosecution’ by Police.

· It is a Legal Requirement for you to reply to this notice and provide the name and details of the driver of the vehicle at the time of the collision.

· If you do comply with this notice the driver is then sent a ‘Notice of Intended Prosecution’ and the matter is then between the driver and Police.

· If you do not comply with the notice, the Police will prosecute the registered owner for failing to provide details of the driver.

· AVDC Taxi Licensing will be informed of any pending prosecutions of any hackney carriage/private hire driver, owner or operator by Police.

· This may result in a suspension of your licence.

Due to an emergency road closure in Market Hill, Buckingham, due to a
collapsed sewer, services 18 and 60 are unable to access the town Centre
and are curtailing short at the junction of London Road and Chandos Road
in Buckingham.
Thus the terminus stop at Buckingham Bus Stand is not being served.
Likely duration is for 8 days
