Due to the current post holder focusing more on managing, developing and expanding the National Express coach operation in the region, we now have a vacancy for an Operations Manager.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will be leading a team of supervisors to ensure that operational excellence is achieved in managing the day-to-day operations of the business. This must be done by successfully balancing the needs of employees without losing sight of operational requirements. The successful candidate will work alongside the City Centre Manager and the Engineering Team to ensure the delivery of high quality bus services in Milton Keynes with a primary objective of services being reliable and punctual.

This is a demanding role that will require candidates to be pro-active, quality conscious, fast thinking and good at problem solving. Enthusiasm and experience working in, and understanding the needs of, a busy and progressive Depot are essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; also experience with working to KPI driven targets and competent use of Microsoft software packages are necessary.

City-Centre Manager

Arriva’s UK Bus division is part of Arriva plc, one of Europe’s leading transport services organisations. We are one of the biggest bus operators within the UK, employing around 17,000 people and running over 6,000 buses. At our Milton Keynes depot, we operate 130 buses and coaches, including National Express.

This is a new position based in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas, reporting directly to the General Manager.

With the emphasis very much on punctuality and improving service times and quality, we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, communicative candidate that will have the enthusiasm, drive and motivation to ensure that the bus services are all running to time and work towards a target of exceeding 95% accuracy of all timings for services.

Key Responsibilities of the role will include:

• Monitoring and regulating services to operate to time,
• Working closely with Milton Keynes Council on planned and unplanned road works and identifying hot spots on traffic congestion,
• Supervision of Bus Station and constant communication with the Traffic Office and Engineering Department to ensure service delivery is achieved,
• Collating and summarising on-road observation reports

The role will aim to work within and exceeding the guidelines of Traffic Commissioners standards that have set a target, whereby 95% of services should depart from the Timing Points within the bracket of up to 1 minute early and up to 5 minutes late.

The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, good understanding of bus service regulations and be prepared to work outdoors at key locations within the Milton Keynes Bus Network

On Sunday 5^th September, the canal bridge in Leighton Buzzard will be closed from 0500 to 2200 for repairs and thus service 150 will not be able to follow its normal route throughout the traffic day and will be unable to serve Linslade.

From Wing as usual to the by-pass roundabout then turn right onto the A505 Leighton by-pass. At the second roundabout turn left into Grovebury Road. At end of Grovebury Road turn left into Lake Street then follow ring road round to traffic lights with Bridge Street and turn left onto normal route into LB High Street.

From MK normal route through to LB High Street then at traffic lights turn right onto ring road, follow the ring road round into Lake Street, then after Morrisons turn right at mini roundabout into Grovebury Road. At the end of this road turn right onto A505 Leighton by-pass and continue up to 2^nd roundabout, junction with Wing Road

To All Drivers,

I wanted to take this opportunity to inform you of the forthcoming service changes at our depot.

100/150 this is now operating a mixed timetable Mon – Fri where you will sometimes be required to change the route number of your service at either end of your journey so READ YOUR DUTY BOARDS PLEASE!!! All 150’s will no longer be serving Bletchley and MK Hospital but will be following the same route as the 100 from Fenny Stratford/Little Chef Roundabout.

17:00 Departure from MK will serve the Open University.

During this change there will be a certain amount of customer enquiries and comments, please make people aware that connecting services will be available from either Leighton Buzzard or Milton Keynes for MK Hospital or Bletchley if customers require information please give out the customer services number or website address.

200/280 will no longer be serving church end in Haddenham they will both be following the same route until Thame, where the 200 will operate direct to oxford missing out Wheatley services and Wheatley.

BOTH THESE SERVICES WILL SERVE ALL STOPS FROM GREEN ROAD ROUNDABOUT UNTIL THE OXFORD STATION.

160 is a brand new service which will run Saturday and Sunday and will be on the Bicester rota. This service will serve the main road outside Bicester Village, Waddesdon Manor and Quianton Rail Centre.

D1 (Dash Direct) is a new route to this depot which will operate in Leighton Buzzard Mon-Sat this service will transfer from Milton Keynes to Leighton Buzzard from the end of October.

In addition to these changes the garage has also been successful in winning 5 short term school contracts within the local area.

Latest update is that after the bank holiday [precise date and time not given but presumably from Tuesday 31^st] the eastbound [towards Aylesbury] bus stop at Headington Shops is to be temporarily moved west a few yards into what is currently the car parking lay-bay before the bus stop to allow work to commence on the bus stop lay-by.

On 1^st and 2^nd September there will be stop and go boards in use as work needs to be done on the road surface to cut in traffic light detectors.

Then from 6^th September onwards there will be single line working controlled by temporary traffic lights so expect delays. It doesn’t say how long these lights will be used for.

SENIOR DUTY MANAGER

Reporting to the Operations Manager, Arriva Milton Keynes currently has a new position for a Senior Duty Manager. The purpose of this role is to support the Duty Managers and Management Team in the smooth running of the Depot. This is a people and customer focused role, ensuring service delivery is maintained whilst creating a team spirit. Delivering a high quality and punctual bus service will be at the fore front, along with monitoring performance and ensuring efficient allocation of resources.

It is essential that applicants have previous experience as a Duty Manager or have worked in a Depot Office in a position of responsibility.

Key requirements of the role also include:

Good level of computer literacy, using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook packages; Excellent people management skills; PCV licence; possess Health & Safety awareness and orientation; be flexible, willing and adaptable regarding the demands of the position. A good general knowledge of Employment Legislation, including Family Friendly Hours and disciplinary procedures, is also desirable.

Depot Administrator

At our Milton Keynes depot, we operate 130 buses and coaches, including National Express.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Administrator to provide effective and efficient administration support to the management team, ensuring the smooth operation of the depot.

The key responsibilities of the role will include:

· Preparation of letters and correspondence, including taking minutes of meetings as required,

· Logging IRF’s (Incident Report forms) on the fig tree system,

· Recruitment administration support, including answering telephone queries, sending relevant letters,

· Extracting and collating information from various systems and processing using Excel spreadsheets,

· Assist with the investigation of customer complaints and liaison with customer services to enable them to respond appropriately,

· Inputting and verifying various information and data, including mileage data,

· Providing advice, guidance and information to customers and staff as requested,

· Carrying out a professional reception service, by answering the telephone and fielding calls appropriately, and also by greeting and signing-in visitors to the depot,

· Any other ad hoc associated administration and clerical duties, including photocopying, filing, and dealing with incoming and outgoing post, as may be reasonably required.

Candidates must be computer literate, and proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. You must also be familiar with, and able to extract information from, databases. The successful applicant will be flexible, with the ability to prioritise the workload, keep to deadlines, and multi-task. You will be organised, and have a good standard of literacy and numeracy, contributing to effective written and verbal communication skills. Good keyboard skills, preferably with touch-typing abilities, would be advantageous. Attention to detail is also essential.

This is a full-time position, based on 37 hours a week, working Monday to Friday.
